Those of you who are already familiar with Tokyo know that it’s the world’s luxury shopping capital, with one upscale department store after another. Nevertheless, the gung-ho fashion crowd’s two main go-to districts are Ginza (Yurakucho subway stop) and Omotesando (Meiji-jingumae stop) – the latter where the wickedly quirky
Gothic Lolitas hang out.

BEST ADDRESS (TO SHOP)
My tour starts with a visit to my favorite store: the Shinjuku Top Shop, where you can find clothes and accessories simply unimaginable in Europe. It’s not to miss. Another must for true fashionistas like
myself is the Opening Ceremony department store in the Shibuya district: seven floors of items exclusively by new designers.

Then, after a trip to the Max Mara boutique in Ginza, I’d suggest heading over to the Kita-Kore Bi-ru building in the Koenji district to check out the work of some of the freshest young
talents around. Lastly, with the exception of December, every first, fourth and fifth Sunday of the month there’s the renowned vintage market at Harajuku’s Togo Shrine. It offers an unbeatable array of kimonos,

Japanese dolls, toys, ceramics, vases and much much more!

LUNCH TIME
Any small café in Ginza is fine for a quick baguette or pasta lunch. I especially love the Barissimo Café near the Yurakucho subway stop. But for traditional Japanese cuisine the place to go is the K Omen restaurant in Omotesando. There the ramen – or slightly spicy chicken noodle soup – is absolutely delicious. Then chill
out at the Anniversaire in the same district, otherwise at the Tas Yard café in Harajuku. Another alternative, a bit classier, is the Nid Café on the third floor of the Aoyama Patio Building in the vicinity of Omotesando. Here you can enjoy classic Japanese fare with a nice French touch. Très chic.

SOFIA COPPOLA STYLE
I advise staying at the Cerulean Tower Tokyo Hotel in Shibuya – the district that “never sleeps” and that’s also quite safe even for women traveling alone. Make sure to book a room on one of the top floors, the view at night is out of this world! Another must is a romantic dinner at the restaurant way up on the 40th. If you prefer something more luxurious, then the hotel for you is the Park Hyatt where Sofia Coppola shot “Lost in Translation”: its three crystal towers with spectacular 60th floor swimming-pool overlook the entire Shinjuku district, not far from the eponymous subway stop.
